Fishing in the oceans around Zihuatanejo. These were the catch of the day... Rooster Fish! So called because of colorful fins on the top of the fish. The little ones were the bait, and provided the basis for an excellent Ceveche and salsa prepared by the owners of the restaurant located next door to our cabaña!
Dida overlooking the harbor at Ziahuatanejo. This has been a refuge for Mayan traders, pirates, and merchant schooners when rough weather whips the sea into a frenzy. When El Presidente vists in his yacht (actually a 3 masted schooner), the Mexican Navy positions itself at the mouth for maximum protection!
After a long bout with 80 lbs of fighting fish, a swaying hammock on the veranda is the perfect way to relax the muscles and reflect on the adventure!
This in my opinion is the essence of a trip to the Mexico coasts. Time to let the cares of the world drift away and recharge one's psychic energies.
Speaking of long strugles at the end of a rod and reel, this excellent sailfish was taken off of the coast of Cabo San Lucas, on the Pacific side of the country!
I prefer catch and release, but my amigos could not resist the impulse to stuff this one and take it home to hang on the wall. |
