Now it is time to dedicate the gym and honor Coach VanPool!

This information is from Northwest Classen grad Ben Byers.
As some of you know, Ben Byers, Bob Bergmann, Terry Byers and Mickey Homsey attended an Oklahoma City Public School Board meeting last winter. Their purpose was to propose naming the gym at Northwest Classen in honor of Coach Don VanPool. Well, believe it or not, the proposal was passed by the Oklahoma City Public School Board. There were a few anxious moments however!

HERE IS WHAT HAS BEEN PLANNED:

SEPTEMBER 6th is the day.
The "Don E. VanPool Gymnasium" at NWC is the place. 6:30 pm - until is the time.

  • Dedication of 11 new State Championship Banners in the gym...
  • Dedication of a huge Bronze Plaque of Coach VanPool unveiled in the gym...
  • Enjoy Refreshments and snacks!!!
  • We are still working on Vince Gill, (NWC grad) & Amy Grant...you never know!!!
  • Maybe a free throw contest between Larry "Gunner" Gatewood & Bruce "Bomber" Scott for money...
  • There is a NWC reunion this same weekend. The classes of 1966, 1967 & 1968 have joined forces for a joint reunion. Contact James Brady at 528-0983 for more info if interested.

What does all of this fun cost you ask? Only $5.00 per person in advance. Payable to Don VanPool Dedication. We have raised approximately $6,000 for the signage, lighting, landscaping, bronze plaque and banners. We are approximately $2,000 short. Your contribution and or participation will go toward the deficit and the evening's festivities. Please consider a $50 -$100 contribution toward the dedication of the Don E. VanPool Gymnasium.

2) If you have a classic car, muscle car or your car from NWC days bring it;
